De Soto High varsity tennis doubles action in Bonner Springs has been rescheduled for tomorrow, April 11. Start time is 3:15.

De Soto High varsity golf and tennis events for April 10 have been postponed.

The pews are expected to be full this Sunday at the De Soto United Methodist Church. Among those on hand Sunday will be a number of former ministers to help the congregation celebrate its sesquicentennial with events throughout the morning and early afternoon.

The De Soto golf team finished sixth out of a field of 10 teams Monday at Leavenworth Country Club, and the youth of the team may be one reason for that.

Trend makes options to jail imperative

Johnson County is currently building a 128-bed addition on its adult detention center at New Century AirCenter at a cost of $60.3 million. The jail expansion will undoubtedly open with speeches, ribbon cutting and fanfare associated with the completion of public projects at which officials will tout it for its efficiency. The expansion offers a 30 percent increase in prisoner population while increasing staffing cost by 12.6 percent and at 10 percent of the construction cost.

Relay golf tourney

The De Soto Relay For Life’s annual golf tournament will be April 19 at Oak County Golf Course. Teams and sponsors are still sought for the event. The entry fee for the tournament, which will begin, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, is $60 for individual and $240 for teams.
