Local business owner reports theft of trailer, riding mower

The owner of De Soto Storage, in the 32000 block of Lexington Avenue, reported the theft of a flatbed trailer and riding lawnmower early this week.

The report, which was filed Monday morning, describes the missing trailer as being 6.5 feet by 10 feet and the mower is a Cub Cadet standard model with orange paint behind the seat.

Johnson County Sheriff's deputies are investigating the theft but have no suspects at this time. If you have any information regarding the theft, contact the Tips Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.

Johnson County Sheriff to participate in town hall event

Johnson Count Sheriff Frank Denning will be participating in a town hall meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 27 at Edgerton Elementary School, 400 W. Nelson, Edgerton.

Denning will be giving a presentation on the role of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office in the community, of special note to De Soto and Edgerton as they are the only cities in the county to rely on the sheriff's office for all police work, and will then take questions afterwards.

“It is important for the citizens we serve to understand what services my office provides and what we are doing in their community to keep them safe," Denning said in a press release about the event.

DUI checkpoint nets more than 20 arrests

The Johnson County Sheriff's Department arrested and issued citations to more than 20 people during a three-hour DUI checkpoint early Sunday morning.

Of the 447 vehicles stopped at the checkpoint, officers asked 58 to perform field sobriety tests, according to deputy Tom Erickson.

Eleven offenders were arrested and cited on scene for driving under the influence and released to sober drivers. Another two were arrested, cited and released on drug charges, including one minor. Deputies also arrested, cited and released two people for transporting open containers of alcohol, one for driving with a suspended license and one for driving without a license.

A third man was arrested on drug charges and child endangerment. He remains in custody, pending a charge hearing, Erickson said.
