VFW to host 9/11 remembrance ceremony
Linden-Tripkos VFW Post 6654 will observe the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks against America with a remembrance ceremony at 9:11 a.m. this Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Veteran's Memorial at the VFW Post Home in De Soto.
The ceremony will honor and pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 and to the police, firefighters, EMTs and other first responders who lost their lives in the attacks and the aftermath. We will also honor the service men and women who died that day at the Pentagon and those comrades we have lost in the wars since. Post Quartermaster and Honor Guard member David Cuba will play Taps in honor of these comrades.
"This Sunday will mark a tragic, but important, watershed moment in the history of our country," said Post Commander Mark Leisten, a Lawrence police officer and captain in the US Army reserve who is currently activated to support operations in Afghanistan. "Ten years ago we said, 'We will never forget,’ this ceremony is our way of keeping that promise."
Seating will be provided. Please arrive by 9:00 a.m.
