The De Soto Methodist church had an interesting monthly bulletin this past week. The Reading Circle, the choir, the youth group and the adult class will all meet this week. Pastor Jan will be starting a new Bible study at the church on Oct. 9 that will be focusing on Colossians.
We had a real treat at the De Soto Baptist church on Sunday. Rick Walker was our worship leader, Beth Couch played piano and Mary Etta Copeland played the organ and the children were in the choir loft to sing. They sang several special songs and everyone enjoyed it quite a bit. The Baptist church also had a birthday dinner for everyone after services. Each table was designated for a specific month and we all sat at the table for our month. Our January table was quite full and was decorated in lovely snowflakes and snowmen. The ABW sponsored the lunch.
Those celebrating birthdays this week are: Mary Cox; Sheryll Ragland; Blake Tucker; Edith Owens Riley; Suzie Gulley; Faythe Reeves; Holly Balch; Dennis Zwahlen; Darrel Zimmerman; Curt Alenbrand; Jim Elliot; Sheryl Ragland; Blake Tucker; Sherene Inman; Ann Marie Nalley and Denise Nalley.
Those celebrating anniversaries are: Jeremy and Jamie Towner and Jon and Heidi Copeland.
There are many, many people on the sick list this week. Ken Sims is in St. Luke's Hospital for tests. Frances Lawhead was in the ER this week but was able to attend services on Sunday. My great-niece, who lives in Missouri, has been diagnosed with cancer and already had two surgeries. Mary Etta Copeland attended a luncheon for the Bethel Neighborhood, which was celebrating 100 years of being in ministry. Belva Thrasher thanked the church for their sympathy after the loss of her husband Willie. This week we give our sympathy to the family of Margaret Johnston.
