Wildcat wrap-ups: Football heading into Homecoming on a win, Cross-Country places in Wamego tournament

The De Soto High School Wildcat football team improved to a 2-1 record after a 28-7 win over Baldwin on the road Friday night. Starting off the scoring for De Soto was junior Corbin Clark with a 21-yard run. Senior Cole Cannon caught an interception from Baldwin and ran the ball 20 yards for a second touchdown. Senior Ryan Hicks scored the third touchdown on a one-yard run and junior Zack Griffiths finished things off with a fourth touchdown on a 28-yard fumble recovery. Wildcat kicker Josh Pasley, a junior, scored the extra point for each touchdown. The homecoming game against Eudora will kick-off at 7 p.m. this Friday.

The DHS cross-country teams competed in the Wamego tournament on Sept. 10 and both the boys and the girls finished in the top three. The boys' team, which placed second out of 17 teams, had a combined score of 88. Junior Angel Vasquez took first-place in the 5K with a time of 16:46, the second-fastest time ever recorded on the course.

The girls' cross-country team placed third out of 14 teams at Wamego with a total score of 98. Top ten finishers were freshman Meredith Wolfe, who placed eighth in the 4K with a time of 16:48, and sohpmore Rebekah Burgweger, who placed ninth in the 4K with a time of 16:49.

Wildcat volleyball defeated Central Heights and Jayhawk Lynn last week, both in just two matches. Scores against Central Heights were 25-17 and 25-8 and scores against Jayhawk Lynn were 25-17 and 25-11. The girls will play Louisburg at home tomorrow night.

The boys' soccer team recorded a 0-0 tie against Ottawa in overtime at home on Thursday night. They have another home game tomorrow night against Paola.
