The De Soto Methodist church has a busy October ahead of them. They've already had their Fall Festival, it was last Saturday, and this Saturday, Oct. 8, they will be having a hay ride and bonfire at the home of Gene and Phyllis Dettmer. Another fun time coming up is their Bingo Night on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 6-9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The cost will be $10 for adults and $5 for youth, all proceeds will go towards filling the Thanksgiving baskets for the needy. If you bring in six canned goods you will receive an extra card.
The needs at the De Soto Multi-Service Center this week are: toilet paper; diapers; peanut butter; canned vegetables; Ramen noodles; spaghetti sauce and Hamburger or Tuna Helper.
October is Pastor Appreciation Month. I know all of our local pastors do so much for our community and they deserve our thanks and prayers.
The junior Joy Choir at the Baptist church will have practice after worship on Sunday, Oct. 9. On Monday, Oct. 10, the ABW will meet at 7 p.m. The 10th is also Columbus Day. The Bible Study group will meet at 10 .m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
I've had a good week and have been mostly pain-free. I have been wearing my new shoes and I think that has helped. I have also had many friends come and call on me. My house has been decorated for fall and Halloween, with the help of my friend Dallas.
Those celebrating birthdays this week are: Jane Rosenstangle; Erma Witsel; Joyce Bassett; Karen Wall; Dean Wall; Charles Lawhead; Brooke Schupp; Ruby Nelson; Hanna Lindbloom; Addison King; Phyllis Dettmer; Beatrice Schotanus; Jack McCracken; Carpenter Plummer and Carson Plummer.
Those celebrating anniversaries this week are: Don and Sue Allen and Dick and Glenna Beytein.
Reta Jenks and myself are hosting FCE this month. We hope everyone attends this time as we have not had a meeting since June.
There are so many on the sick list week. Arlen Gabriel and Dale Dannel have been ill. Hattie Jo Austin was at church on Sunday and it was nice to see her as she now lives in Georgia. Sharon Brashears is on the sick list and Sally Beck asks for prayers for her friend, as does Karl Beesley's. My great-grandson Hayden was injured in Friday night's football game.
