Sheriff's department investigating theft of Olathe police uniform
The Johnson County Sheriff's department is investigating a theft from the home of an Olathe police officer, according to a press release from the department.
According to the release, a service weapon, a pair of handcuffs and multiple Olathe Police Department uniform shirts were stolen from the Spring Hill home of an officer sometime between Nov. 18-24, while the officer was out of town. The theft was reported on Friday, Nov. 25.
The sheriff's office is conducting interviews in connection to the theft but is not naming a suspect at this time, according to the release. They ask that anyone with any information regarding any of the stolen items or the theft contact the sheriff's office at (913) 715-5560 or call the TIPS hotline at (816) 474-TIPS (8477).
Due to the serious nature of the stolen items, the sheriff's office warns in the release that anyone questioning the authenticity of a police officer or sheriff's deputy to ask for personal identification. The release also states that if an officer in question cannot produce identification then 911 should be called immediately.
