The De Soto Methodist church's monthly newsletter had several interesting articles in the last edition. The one on parents setting a good example fro their children by eating healthy foods was particularly good. Gayle Moriarity was the worship leader on Sunday and Charles Miller, Shelle Fields and Nancy McMillen were the ushers/greeters. The church also had a yoga class on Sunday afternoon and evening and will have another tonight at 7 p.m.
The youth ministries at the church meet twice a month and average 20 kids, according to Pastor Jan. She hopes to get more support for the youth programs and to better advertise events to let more of the community know about them. The church began a new Bible Study on Sunday based on how to have a conversation with confidence. If you want to participate go to the church at 9 a.m. on Sunday and call the office first.
The De Soto Baptist church started their Vacation Bible School this week. It runs from 1-3:45 p.m. each day. On Sunday the kids will present their program from the week during worship. I hope it has a good attendance.
This past Sunday we had a brown bag lunch after worship as well as a recognition of fathers during worship.
I finished one of my Bible word search books this week and now I've started two more. Over the weekend I shucked four ears of corn to fix for Debbie and Hayden and me. Hayden played in another baseball tournament over the weekend and hit a grand slam homerun. The trucks at my house are filled with all the rocks leftover from my fireplace repairs. They've been dropping into those trucks for two months now!
Those celebrating birthdays this week are: Wayne Log; Sherry Bowlin; Ron Hooper; Nathaniel Schotarius; Linda Lane; James Ingalls and my granddaughter Karla Ruth.
Those celebrating anniversaries are: Mary and Bill Plummer; Jo and Jerry St. Peter; Bob and Sandi Gulley; Curt and Amy Culver; Bruce and Nicole Yarbrough; Mike and Bonnie Montgall and Jim and Katharine Ingalls.
The needs at the community food pantry this week are: peanut butter; jelly; white rice; paper products and baby diapers. I try to take in a few things each week, I believe lots of friendships are made in sharing things.
I'm included on the sick list this week as I'm still in pain from my foot. I've been to the doctor twice and have gone back to wearing my compression hose but it hasn't helped. Doug Opdycke's brother-in-law is in the hospital, as is Mar McDaniel. Neal Brady is having knee surgery soon and Joe Woywod was taken to the ER on Saturday. Michael Gribbin is doing therapy now and Merle Couch is home from the hospital. Sympathy goes to the family of Bryan Jessip as well.
