Update: Counselors available after De Soto youth killed in motorcycle accident

Bryan Jessip, 18, of De Soto, died after his motorcycle collided with a minivan just before 5 p.m. today in the intersection of 115th Street and Waverly Road in Lexington.

Grief counselors will be available for students and staff today and throughout the week at De Soto High School.

Johnson County Sherriff’s deputies responded to the scene of the fatality crash at 4:45 p.m. Deputies have not officially released Jessip's name but it was confirmed by De Soto USD 232 officials earlier this evening.

The minivan was traveling east on 115th Street, and the motorcycle was heading north on Waverly Road.

Jessip was pronounced dead at the scene. While the cause of the accident is still under investigation, deputies reported Jessip was wearing a helmet.

Jessip recently completed his junior year at DHS.

The minivan occupants, a woman and two minor children, were taken to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, authorities said.
