DUI checkpoint nets more than 20 arrests
The Johnson County Sheriff's Department arrested and issued citations to more than 20 people during a three-hour DUI checkpoint early Sunday morning.
Of the 447 vehicles stopped at the checkpoint, officers asked 58 to perform field sobriety tests, according to deputy Tom Erickson.
Eleven offenders were arrested and cited on scene for driving under the influence and released to sober drivers. Another two were arrested, cited and released on drug charges, including one minor. Deputies also arrested, cited and released two people for transporting open containers of alcohol, one for driving with a suspended license and one for driving without a license.
A third man was arrested on drug charges and child endangerment. He remains in custody, pending a charge hearing, Erickson said.
