Ribbon cutting ceremony for Friends of the Kaw rain garden to be Sunday

The Friends of the Kaw will be cutting the ribbon on their new rain garden at the boat launch at Riverfest Park in De Soto at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 24. The garden is mostly funded by a grant from the Johnson County Stormwater Education initiative.

A community float will launch after ribbon cutting and will take out at Cedar Creek Access. There is no charge for the float but participants must RSVP in advance with the Kansas Riverkeeper at (913) 963-3460. Canoes and double kayaks (including PFDs and paddles) are available for this float at no charge, the float will depart at a approximately 1:30 p.m. and arrive at Cedar Creek access ramp at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The ribbon cutting ceremony and float trip will be canceled if it is raining or if thunderstorms or high wind is eminent.
