Hot sun, hot cars
The Wheels and Dreams Car, Truck and Bike Show took place Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, in downtown Shawnee, coinciding with the ten-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Entries ranged from military tributes to colorful and gleaming cars, trucks and motorcycles of all makes, models and years. Some proceeds from registration went to help the family of 7-year-old Amelia Lamb of Shawnee, who has a rare bone marrow disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia and must undergo blood transfusions every three weeks. Even with health insurance, costs add up, her mother, Vickie Lamb, said. "She'll continue to do that the rest of her life, until they come up with new treatments or she goes into remission," Lamb said.
