First day of Starside's Summer Food Program sees big turnout
Nearly 500 individuals participated in the first day of Starside Elementary's Summer Food Program, which provides free meals to children 18 and under and low-cost meals to adults. While the majority of the participants on the first day were students enrolled in summer school, Starside Principal Jessica Dain expects more members of the community to take advantage of the meals as word spreads. "It's wonderful to see the community here in the school and if we can feed some of these kids that might be hungry otherwise then that's more than we could ask for," she said.
