Mary M. Nusbaum 1912 - 2007
Mass of Christian Burial for Mary M. Nusbaum, 95, Eudora, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Nusbaum died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at her home.
She was born July 5, 1912, in Marysville, the daughter of Joseph and Theresa Trienan Ellenbecker. She graduated from schools in Marysville before attending Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia.
Mrs. Nusbaum taught at Pleasant Ridge, a one-room schoolhouse where she did everything from teaching math lessons to building the morning fire in the furnace.
She and her husband operated grocery stores in Nortonville, Valley Falls and Eudora. She also worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant and helped her husband with their part-time business of replacing the cane seats on antique chairs. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church for 50 years.
She married Robert Nusbaum on Nov. 22, 1937. They shared 49 years of marriage. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Robert Nusbaum, Charleston, S.C.; four daughters, Virginia Hafsahl, Seattle, Wash.; Rosemary Murphy, Baldwin City, Rozanne Wadleigh, Essex Junction, Vt., and Patricia McGivern, Topeka; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Ellenbecker, Charles Ellenbecker, and Leo Ellenbecker, and a granddaughter, Morgyn.
A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel, where the family will receive friends until 8:30 p.m. Friday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Holy Family Church Cemetery Fund or to Hospice Care of Douglas County, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 1003 John L. Williams Drive, Eudora 66025.
