Ray V. Varnell 1923 - 2009
Memorial services for Ray V. Varnell, 86, Osawatomie, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Ave., De Soto. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will follow in De Soto Cemetary. He died Nov. 23, 2009, at Specialist Hospital in Overland Park.
Mr. Varnell was born March 7, 1923, and graduated from Walnut High School in 1943. He was a gunner in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He moved to De Soto in 1946 where he owned a garage and body shop and city police chief. He moved to Osawatomie in 1979, operating a body shop and furniture and bait shop before retiring in 1988.
He was a life members of De Soto VFW Post 6654.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; daughters Rhonda, Shawnee, Darlene, Osawatomie,Della, Osawatomie, Sherida, Diana, Cathy and Kristy; sons Daniel and David, 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
