New festival to raise funds for future park expansion
The Johnson County Park and Recreation District has planned a family adventure and challenge event Saturday at the site of a planned addition to Shawnee Mission Park.
The Double Ogg Dare Festival is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the future Oak Ridge Lodge and adjoining parklands along Ogg Road at the northwest corner of the park.
Events include a 1.5-mile Family Walk and Stroll, six mountain bike challenges, an orienteering course, live bluegrass and children’s activities ranging from art projects to wildlife presentations.
Admission is $5, or free for children 10 and younger. The entry fee is $25 for running and mountain biking events. Find registration information and a complete schedule of events online at
Festival tickets and a free shuttle service to the festival site will be available at the Theatre in the Park, 7710 Renner Road.
Proceeds will help match a $250,000 challenge grant from the Park and Recreation Foundation of Johnson County for development of the Oak Ridge Lodge park site, hoped to include an event facility, multiple trailheads and 100 acres of wildflower meadows and prairie.
