Free chickenpox vaccines available this afternoon at Oak Park Mall

March 4, 2011

The Johnson County Health Department is offering chickenpox vaccines to children ages 1-18 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today, March 4, at Oak Park Mall in Overland Park.

A parent or guardian must accompany children who are aged 17 and under. The vaccine is free of charge. The vaccine location at the mall is on the lower level, center mall.

In a news release, the department said vaccines work to safeguard children from illnesses and death caused by infectious diseases. Vaccines protect children by helping prepare their bodies to fight often serious, and potentially, deadly diseases.

Chickenpox is highly infectious and spreads from person to person by direct contact or through the air from an infected person’s coughing or sneezing. Vaccination is the best way to prevent the disease in most people.
