Volunteers needed for adult tutoring program
January 7, 2011
An orientation for new Johnson County Adult Education volunteers will be from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 23 in room 234 of the Carlsen Center at Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd. in Overland Park.
The Johnson County Adult Education program, sponsored by the college and Johnson County Library, provides classes and individualized instruction to help undereducated adults improve academic skills.
Volunteer tutors are needed to help students improve reading, writing and math skills; prepare for the GED test; or learn English as a second language.
Classes are held in six locations throughout Johnson County. Volunteers tutor for two or three hours one morning or evening each week for a minimum of six months. They work under the direction of a professional instructor assisting students with the curriculum that is provided.
For more information, contact volunteer coordinator Chris Specht at (913) 469-3003 or cspecht1@jccc.edu.
