Bulldogs, Wildcats split varsity basketball contests

Girls basketball
BALDWIN CITY — Despite missing 21 of 40 free throws, the Baldwin High girls’ basketball team survived a tough, physical Frontier League win Monday night.
The Bulldogs struggled from the foul line, but they made enough to beat De Soto 43-36. De Soto made 9 of 17 free throws. Approximately 50 personal fouls were called in the game.
Baldwin will host Eudora at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys basketball
BALDWIN CITY — Aaron Nutterfield helped the De Soto High boys’ basketball team pick up a road victory here Monday night. Nutterfield, a 6-foot-7 senior, led all scorers with 15 points as the Wildcats beat the Bulldogs 48-33.
Nutterfield threw down a dunk seconds before halftime, which sparked a 12-2 run by the Wildcats as they pulled away in the third quarter. Baldwin fell behind early by scoring two points in the first quarter.
