Celebration hoped to help Christmas Bureau assist more needy Johnson Countians
Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Holiday of Hope event, a dinner and dance benefiting the Johnson County Christmas Bureau.
The event is planned for 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Ritz Charles, 9000 W. 137th St., Overland Park. KMBC’s Joel Nichols will serve as master of ceremonies, and the 9th Street Incline Band will provide the music.
The Christmas Bureau is a non-denominational charity that, through its annual Holiday Shop, provides assistance to qualified low-income Johnson County residents. The volunteer-staffed shop serves more than 12,000 residents annually, providing groceries, personal-care items, toys, coats and blankets to the needy.
In 2010, budget and logistical constraints forced the Christmas Bureau to deny service to more than 400 families, according to a news release from the organization. That number is expected to swell this year due to population growth, economic conditions and the limited holiday assistance available from other agencies.
Tickets for Holiday of Hope are $60 per person and must be purchased by Oct. 1. To purchase, go online to jccb.org or mail a check payable to JCCB Holiday of Hope, P.O. Box 14786, Lenexa, KS 66285. Table sponsorships are available for $500, $1,000 and $2,500. Auction items also are needed.
