De Soto city clerk recognized for her work

Lana McPherson, De Soto city clerk, has been named the 2010 Mildred Vance City Clerk/Finance Officer of the Year for the State of Kansas.

The award was announced at the 60th Annual City Clerks & Municipal Finance Officers Association Spring Conference on March 11 in Wichita.

McPherson was first appointed City Clerk of De Soto in 1998. She has been a member of CCMFOA and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks since beginning her career. Lana achieved her certified municipal clerk certification and also the prestigious master municipal clerk certification. She has served on various CCMFOA committees as well as on the board of director from 2002-2004. Lana currently serves on the IIMC’s small cities task force and has also served as an IIMC election officer in 2009. She served on the Kansas advisory council on intergovernmental relations from 2005-2007. Lana has represented her community on various League of Kansas Municipalities committees and also as the Kansas Municipal Insurance Trust board president from 2007-2008.

Lana has also been very active in her community as a De Soto Chamber of Commerce member, “Catch a Ride” volunteer driver, along with serving as the city’s sesquicentennial coordinator. She is a member of the De Soto Baptist Church and has been the organist/pianist since 1964.

This award is presented each year to a city clerk or finance officer of Kansas who has made significant contributions to the state association, the profession, and to their city. This award was named in honor of Mildred Vance, former auditor and city clerk/finance officer for Parsons.

To be eligible for the award nominees must be a current city clerk or municipal finance officer who has held the position for at least three years. They must also be a member of CCMFOA for at least three years and have attained the status of CMC or have received the GFOA certificate of achievement in financial reporting.
