Garage sale to benefit MVHS band
Mill Valley High School’s cafeteria will transform into a garage sale Saturday morning.
The school’s band program will be holding a multi-family garage sale in one location to raise money for a trip to Dallas in April.
Items ranging from furniture to clothes will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Each participating family will have a table. The funds from each table will go directly to the account for that student.
Donated items will also be sold, said Debra Steiner, band director.
The program takes a trip every four years. This is the school’s second trip.
Four years ago the group traveled to St. Louis for a festival.
This year a little more than 100 students will travel to the Five Star Music Festival in Dallas.
Steiner said the band will perform two songs at the festival and participate in an hour long music clinic.
“A major benefit for the trip is the students get the opportunity to play for judges that aren’t from Kansas,” she said. “Texas and their expectations are different from the expectations in Kansas. It will make the students more well rounded in their critiques and it’s nice to hear opinions on how to make the group better.”
