The De Soto United Methodist Church is thankful to Max Atwell for changing the church’s sign in bitter weather.

The De Soto United Methodist Church worship committee is still soliciting congregation members’ opinions on whether they would want one 10 a.m. Sunday service or return to two Sunday services.

Sunday worship was cancelled at the De Soto Baptist Church because of the snowstorm.

They were able to have service Sunday at the De Soto United Methodist Church, and about 45 members attended.

Prowlers damaged the De Soto Baptist Church’s basement door so some members will have to get new keys.

Mary Etta Copeland and Karen Wall’s group will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Jean Epperson’s Wednesday Bible group will not meet in January and February.

Among those having birthdays this week are Leona Hoover, Anita Martin, Deanna Weller Chance, Florene McMillian, Kim Bedford, Jennifer Weese, Peyton Koiahim, Patty Hollingsworth, Charlene Braley, Doug Weis, Molly Taylor, Coby Morton, Jared Elliot, Travis Ellenberger, and my grandsons Matthew Nalley and Chris Chandler. I, Dorothy Nalley, will celebrate my 94th birthday this week.

Dan and Sara Miller will celebrate their anniversary this week.

Virgil Dean is to be released from the hospital Tuesday to Hillside Village. His wife, Nadine, is in the Olathe Medical Center after a heart attack last week. They are the parents of Vergie Opdycke.

Also on the sick list is Bryan Haulmark, who has a serious kidney problems. He has had one kidney removed. Brian Beggs is having surgery for colon cancer and needs our prayers. Willetta Lawhead is home after being hospitalized from a reaction to medication. Vickie Haumark’s brother had heart surgery at Olathe Medical Center. My son Michael in Oklahoma is returning to the hospital for an adjustment to the pacemaker implanted after his recent heart surgery. Lillian Bassett to have wrist surgery this week. By brother-in-law Bill Lester had a pacemaker implanted, too.

My friend Mary Allen brought be a plate of salmon patties. She knows how much I like them.

My friend Louella Tillery wants new recipes and a cologne Avon used to make. I can’t help her.
