The De Soto United Methodist Church postponed the youth group's Bingo Bash because it conflicted with high school musicals at De Soto and Mill Valley high schools. It was rescheduled to from 6 to 9 p.m. March 27 at the church's Fellowship Hall. Cost to play will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. There will be refreshments for the hungry so come and play. Call 585-1359 for more information.

The De Soto United Methodist Church Women are still seeking volunteers to help with the weekly Rotary Club breakfast from 6 to 8 a.m. Friday. The breakfast has been a good fundraiser for the group.

The De Soto Baptist Church raised $530 for its Love Gift Mission of the A.B. Women from the Feb. 14 Sweetheart Banquet. Reta and Jim Ellis were crowned king and queen for 2010.

They almost canceled services Sunday at the Baptist Church when only two showed up for Sunday school in the snow and ice. But after that decision was made about 20 appeared so Rev. Copeland had services.

I didn't go because my family said I had no business going out in the bad weather.

The Ottawa University Choir will lead worship March 7 at the De Soto Baptist Church. A potluck dinner will follow with about 35 choir members attending so church members are urged to bring extra food. One congregation member has volunteered to manage the kitchen but needs three more volunteers to assist her. Call The Rev. Richard Copeland at 583-1425 or 583-1026 to volunteer.

The De Soto Baptist Church will have its business meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 8 and will have a silent auction at 7 p.m. with Paula Rhodes in charge. Bring your crafts and goodies.

Jan Vaughn, wife of De Soto United Methodist pastor Jerry Vaughn, said about half the church's congregation made it to church Sunday.

The Willow Spring F.C.E. Sewing for Others group took 58 lap quilts to the Eudora Nursing Home last week. The group meets from 1 to 3 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month.

The need at the De Soto Multi-Service Center's food pantry this week is for soups and pastas. Next week's need is white rice. Paper goods and baby items are always needed.

Baby diapers, children's coats, gloves, caps and warm clothes are need at the community clothes closet.

Among those celebrating birthdays this week are Norma Longhoffer, John McCaslin, Mary Bicklemeyer, Evan Adams, Kyle Ann Payne, Ali Wilcox, Lois Tripkos, Mary Guntert, Patricia McAninch, Dana Blugaugh, Richard Copeland, Cassie Shultz, Beth Couch, Patsy Lucas, Scott Jones, my grandson in Illinois Kevin Modelski and my grandson Ralph Frohling in Oklahoma.

I've been working on my income taxes, but I can never find all the material I need. It's stored upstairs but I can't climb the steps and my daughter and grandson say they can't find it. I need angel wings to be able to get it.

Ross and Gayle Moriarity and Jim and Marilyn Etherton will be among those in De Soto celebrating anniversaries this week.

On the sick list this week are Bob Linden, Mike Cox (Larry's cousin), Joyce Bassett's sister-in-law Lelani Taylor. The Bill Bedford family is in need of prayers, as is Betty O'Dell, who is now in a nursing home. Mr. and Mrs. Don McDaniels are on the prayer list. Mary Jo McDaniel asks for prayers for her brother-in-law and a great niece. I'm asking for prayers for the pain in my right knee and hip.

I had a nice surprise last week when I answered the door bell to have a lady hand me a Valentine's Day bag full of many edible, useful things. They were from the Silver Circle Group of the De Soto United Methodist Church. I thank them very much.

It’s a miserable cold winter, but spring is coming. My grandson Hayden is already practicing with his baseball team in an indoor facility.
