Eudoran looking to run as independent in 3rd Congressional District

August 27, 2010

A Eudora man, trying to get on the ballot as an independent candidate in the 3rd Congressional District, will plead his case today.

Wayne Briscoe, 57, a telecommunications account manager, was scheduled to appeal to the State Objections Board.

Earlier this month, the Secretary of State’s Office declared Briscoe’s petition submission insufficient. An independent congressional candidate needs 5,000 signatures to get on the Nov. 2 ballot.

Tyler Longpine, a spokesman for the Secretary of State’s Office, said Briscoe had more than 5,000 signatures, but many were invalidated because it appeared the notary stamp on them was dated before the signatures were collected.

Briscoe’s case will be before the State Objections Board, which is made up of Secretary of State Chris Biggs, Lt. Gov. Troy Findley and Attorney General Steve Six.

Republican Kevin Yoder and Democrat Stephene Moore are running to replace U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Lenexa, who is retiring. The 3rd District includes Johnson and Wyandotte counties and eastern Douglas County.
