Olathe woman jumps from bridge and survives
Sometime around 7:15 p.m., a 62-year-old woman from Olathe jumped off the bridge on Wyandotte Street into the Kansas River.
According to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office officials, the woman walked onto the bridge after cutting through private property. The woman then jumped off the bridge in an attempt to commit suicide.
After sometime in the water, she began to swim to shore. She reached the edge of the river about half a mile east of the bridge.
The owner of the private property called the Sheriff’s Office. Emergency personnel were stationed every 300 feet waiting for the woman to come to shore, officials said. They added the river's current was fairly strong.
Officials said the woman seemed OK, but was examined at the scene and then transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
On Friday afternoon, hospital officials said the woman was in stable condition.
