With just more than three months left in the year, the city of De Soto has issued four permits for new single family homes in 2009. City building inspector Steve Chick said there was some encouraging signs behind the dismal numbers. All the permits were issued since June, he said.

De Soto USD 232 is still growing but not at the rate witnessed during the building boom earlier this decade. The De Soto district increased its headcount by 107 students in pre-kindergarten to 12th grade to 6,533 students from the 2008-2009 count of 6.426 students.
