JCPRD art show
The works of 40 Johnson County artists will be showcased during the fifth annual Johnson County Art Fest exhibit. The juried exhibition runs Nov. 1 to Nov. 22 at the Ernie Miller Nature Center located at 909 N. Kansas Highway 7 in Olathe.
There is no admission charge to the exhibit, which will be open for public viewing during the Nature Center’s regular hours: 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The exhibition will be closed on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Initially presented in celebration of the county’s Sesquicentennial in 2005, Art Fest has continued as an annual tribute to the widely diverse talents of the many artists residing in Johnson County. This year's exhibit features a variety of media including paintings, stoneware, photography, blown and fused glass, and mixed media.
All of the pieces on display will be available for purchase and a portion each sale will benefit the Nature Center. Retail prices range from $55 to $5,500.
Sponsored by Johnston Ballweg & Tuley LC and the Johnson County Park and Recreation District, Art Fest was open to previously juried artists 21 years of age and older currently residing in Johnson County. In all, a record 257 entries were submitted by 99 artists for this year's exhibit. This compares to 144 entries from 52 artists for the inaugural Art Fest in 2005.
The artists will be vying for Outstanding Artists Awards of $1,000, $750 and $500. There will also be purchase awards totaling up to $2,000 for art to be placed on permanent display in Johnson County Park and Recreation District facilities.
