Mill Valley-De Soto golf duo places fourth at Gardner
Mill Valley-De Soto golfers Emma Tinsley and Cameron Eckardt combined to fire a 44 and placed fourth on Tuesday at the Gardner-Edgerton Invitational.
The tournament used a two-player scramble format.
"I feel like we played decent considering the cold and windy conditions we played in," coach Adam Wessel said. "Scramble can be a tough format for some because of the pressure it puts on you if your teammate hits a bad shot. I knew Emma and Cam would be in contention, but they would be the first to tell you that they weren't satisfied with the way they played."
It was one of the final regular-season events for the team before heading into regional action. The Mill Valley-De Soto golfers will compete Thursday at the Basehor-Linwood Invitational and then split up for regionals next week. Mill Valley golfers will compete in Class 5A postseason action and De Soto golfers will play in Class 4A.
Wessel said he is excited about his team's chances in the postseason.
"I think we can have some girls qualify at regionals and I have expectations of that happening," he said. "It's very difficult for us to qualify as teams because DHS and MVHS have to split in postseason play. Cameron Eckardt and Megan Kelley have great chances to qualify if they play well and Emma Tinsley for DHS has a great chance as well."
