USD 232 to form special education advisory council

November 20, 2009

De Soto's USD 232 announced the formation of a Special Education Parent Advisory Council as part of the district's continuous improvement process.

Parents and staff interested in joining the in the council are invited to attend an informational meeting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12 in the Board of Education room in the District Administration Building, 35200 West 91st Street, De Soto.

The advisory council will provide an avenue for parents and staff to discuss information concerning special services.

The goal of the council is to provide a forum for discussion related to special services, create support networks at each school, and facilitate meetings on topics of interest for families.

Once the council is formed it is expected to meet every other month during the school year.

Parents and staff interested in the council, but can not attend the Jan. 12 meeting can contact Joan Robbins, special services director, at jrobbins@usd232.org.

I hope that Ms. Robbins really wants to turn around to poor care special needs students have been receiving under the old staff. I feel that the early special needs program really needs a overhaul and new "blood" in place. I have not heard anything about Ms. Robbins, so do not know what to expect, but I am going to look on the bright side and hope she really cleans house, as the old program had a lot of spiders and dust hanging around.
