The De Soto United Methodist Church is having a Thanksgiving luncheon next Sunday Nov. 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The church youth is putting on the luncheon as a thank you for the support that has been given to them this past year. They are asking you to sign up on the list on the youth bulletin board.

The De Soto Multi-Service Center asked the De Soto United Methodist Church to provide 300 boxes of Thanksgiving stuffing.

The need this week at the Multi-Service Center is canned meat. The need next week is whole kernel corn. They always can use white rice, pinto beans, cereal, paper goods and baby diapers.

The De Soto Baptist Church had baptism services following worship Sunday. The Rev. Richard Copeland baptized Addie Austin, Cole Towner, Cody Towner, Marie Welch, Emily Gardner and Dustin Ester.

The ABW had a short meeting following worship. A motion was made to send a $100 gift to our missionary named in the current November Central Connection. President Anita Woywod was pleased. The scholarship students and college students we had the garage sale for in October will be remembered for Thanksgiving too.

The De Soto Baptist Church is having a fundraiser for the Relay for Life with offerings of pumpkin pie, pecan pies, sugar free pumpkin pie and pumpkin cakes for $10 each. Let Richell Hodges and Monica Walker know your orders. Pies or cake can be picked up on Nov. 25 at 2 p.m.

The De Soto Baptist Church’s Thanksgiving dinner is Sunday following worship. It is a pot luck and meat and drink will be provided. There is also a silent auction for new and slightly used Christmas decorations. Money will go to the ABW special projects.

Those celebrating birthdays this week are Bill Lafferty, Parker Riley, Kurt Guntert, Raveene King, Stuart Adams, Richard Epperson, Donna Hansen, Michael Gribbin, Joe White, Wilma Manna and Seth Rhodes.

Among those with anniversaries this week are The Rev. Jerry and Jan Vaughn, Steve and Sheri Bowlin and Dale and Nancy Lindbloom.

Those on the sick list are R.B. Johnson who had recent surgery and was able to attend worship at Baptist Church with his wife, Martha. Josh Childers is in Olathe Medical Center after surgery and needs our prayers. Hillside Village resident Bobbie Robinson is back in her room after a stroke and rehab center treatment. My son Carlin in Illinois is better. This week I got the news my son, Michael in Oklahoma is in the hospital. He needs our prayers very much. Georgianna Taylor still needs prayers.

The 50th anniversary of Clavin and Leona Robinson Saturday at the Senior Center was well attended. The cake was beautifully decorated and delicious. My great-grandson Hayden took me in my wheelchair. I got to see their children Carla and Doug and their families. I also got to see and visit many I’d not seen in a long time.

My son Jerry and wife, Linda, returned from a week’s Caribbean cruise. They also went this week to Salem, Missouri to celebrate the birthdays of relatives there.

I was unable to attend the musical and dinner at the high school last week and with two sons in critical condition, I wasn’t a good conversational person.

The Willow Springs F.C.E. met at De Soto Baptist Church on Thursday, Nov. 12 for their monthly meeting. The tables had yellow cloths with a multi-candle Thanksgiving centerpiece brought by Leona Robinson and three wooden turkeys from Dorothy Nalley and a lighted Thanksgiving candle from Reta Jenks.

Georgeanna Taylor was absent due to doctor’s check-up after her recent hospital stay.

Dorothy gave the table grace. We ate delicious ham and salad Reta Jenks brought and green bean and potatoes Rosemary McAnnich brought and chocolate-cherry dessert that Leona Robinson brought. A special prayer with all holding hands was given by Jean Epperson for Michael Nalley who is in a Oklahoma hospital from a sever heart attack.

The two ‘pigs’ brought were won by Rosemary. The one Reta brought was decorative towels and one was a decorative centerpiece. Roll call was ‘something you’re thankful for’. Dorothy gave a lesson on ‘A Kid Quiz’ from F.C.E. flyer and also passed out F.C.E. columns and love sheets. Collections were give and the meeting adjourned. The next meeting is Dec. 9.
