Wildcats fall in semifinal 2-0
The De Soto soccer team’s dreams of a state title ended with a 2-0 loss to Elbing-Berean Academy in the state semifinals Friday night.
De Soto coach Darren Erpelding said the Wildcats controlled the game from start to finish and had many more shot opportunities but couldn’t get a shot to go in.
“The better team lost,” Erpelding said.
Berean put up only a few shots in the contest but two of them went it. The first goal came with 25 minutes to play in the first half, and the second came midway through the second half.
De Soto will play in the consolation game against Rose Hill at noon Saturday at Towanda-Circle High School.
Rose Hill fell to St. James in the early game on penalty kicks. The score was tied at one at the end of regulation, and St. James won on PKs 4-2.
Berean will play St. James at 2 p.m. for the state championship.
