Downtown De Soto 2-day planning effort to be May 19 and 20
The city of De Soto’s planning consultant RDG Planning and Design will have a two-day planning charette May 19 and 20 for the two-block streetscape improvements slated for 83rd Street from Peoria to Shawnee streets. The project with an estimated cost of $700,000 is on the city’s capital improvement project list but no date has been set for construction or funding approved for the work.
The May 19 and 20 planning process will be similar to the one RDG used when developing the downtown revitalization plan in 2005. Property owners in the downtown district and other interested parties are invited to share ideals and thoughts with the planners during the day Tuesday at City Hall. At 6 p.m. Tuesday, the planners will present a “Great Streets” slide show of street designs in other communities. Wednesday, planners will again meet with interested parties while beginning to put ideas on paper. Plans developed that day will be shared at 6 p.m. meeting that evening.
