The election for De Soto’s Board of Education is less than a month away and candidates for Position 6, Shawnee, are gearing up for the race. Position 6 incumbent Larry Meyer will face off with Tim Needham and Tammy Thomas. Patrons of the De Soto School District will vote for Position 5, Position 6 and Position 4 on April 7.
No seatbelt law equals no grant for Kansas

Homeschool robotics team shines at competition

The Metro Homeschool robotics team logged 500 hours this year. The team, comprised of students from Shawnee, Olathe, Blue Springs, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Independence and Pleasant Hill, put the time to good use. They competed in two robotics tournaments this year; BEST in Saint Louis and FIRST in Kansas City.

While it hasn’t completely escaped the consequences of the recession, the city of De Soto remains in healthy financial shape as preparations start of the 2010 city budget. De Soto City Administrator Pat Guilfoyle gave a summation of the city’s financial status last Thursday to the De Soto City Council.

The De Soto United Methodist Church’s Relay for Life team is seeking five to seven more members to join the eight currently on the team. Last year, it was named a Silver Team. There are several Relay for Life events scheduled, including an April 18 golf tournament and a Wizards game April 23 at the T-Bones stadium in Kansas City, Kan.
