- A bow-hunting club has requested the city of De Soto lease it a little-used park in the West Bottoms.
Members of Prairie Traditional Archers made the requests to lease Little Big Knife Park at last Thursday’s De Soto City Council meeting. Club President Ricky Sadler of Olathe said the club had visited the 26-acre site on Edgerton Road north of 79th Street and found it attractive for its purposes.

- The De Soto United Methodist Church is having its annual picnic from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at shelter No. 3 at Kill Creek Park. The meal will be at 6 p.m. and those attending are asked to bring table service, side dishes, yard games, guitars, blankets and other items to make for an enjoyable time. The Fellowship Committee will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, tea and lime and lemonade.

- The De Soto City Council agreed last Thursday that the ban of bicycles on 83rd Street from Kill Creek Road to the east city limits should be lifted.
The ban on the stretch of road was put in place in the late 1990s because the road was thought to be too narrow and hilly to be safe for bike riders.
