Third-grader promotes dental health
Starside third-grader Connor Nimrod likes to draw. He also like to fish. Combining the two interest may not seem like an easy task when you add in dental health, but Connor made it happen, and won a contest.
Connor entered a drawing competition to promote dental health in February through Dr. John Fales’ dentistry practice in Olathe. Connor received $150 to purchase a bike and helmet from Wal-Mart.
While Fales isn’t Connor’s dentist, he found out about the regional competition through school.
“I started on picture of a toothbrush and toothpaste but then I started over,” he said.
Connor’s second picture of a large mouth bass brushing his teeth took the top prize in the competition, which included Johnson, Franklin, Linn and Miami counties.
“I drew him brushing his teeth and flossing,” Connor said. “He had bait fish flavored toothpaste.”
Connor’s colored pencil picture will be published in the Kansas Dental Association Magazine out of Topeka. He also missed a portion of the school day to take a photo with Dr. Fales.
The drawing competition is sponsored by the Kansas Dental Association but that those working at Fales’ practice are responsible for choosing the winning picture.
“Music, P.E. and Art are my favorite classes,” Connor said.
Over Memorial Day weekend, Connor picked out an orange and silver bike and blue helmet.
