The De Soto City Council last Thursday awarded a contract to repave 2.5 miles of 83rd Street east of Kill Creek Road to the city limits to local contractor Blacktop Paving.
The winning bid for $899,000 was very close to an engineer’s estimate but significantly less than that of three other bidders on the project, De Soto city engineer Mike Brungardt told the council.

There were four De Sotoans present at last Thursday’s De Soto City Council meeting who were not city staff or elected officials. My special reason for attending the meeting was to hear and to view first-hand the completed design for the improvement of our two-block downtown business district.

Another round of state budget cuts is being felt in the De Soto school district.
De Soto USD 232 will see a $500,000 reduction after the latest round of cuts.

Until De Soto has a grocery store it won’t do any good to try to attract other new businesses. As long as De Soto residents have to drive several miles to do grocery shopping or to work, they will shop and buy in the areas where they do grocery shopping.

De Soto added 52 new residents from July 2007 to July 2008, according to numbers the U.S. Census Bureau released July 1.

There wasn’t a fireworks display for Shawnee this year, but the sparks are flew at Theatre in the Park’s rendition of High School Musical.
The popular Disney franchise of High School Musical kicked off a three week run at Theatre in the Park June 26. The production is unlike any other previously performed at TTIP as all but two cast members are students.

The De Soto United Methodist Church had a youth and parent information day Wednesday in the church’s Fellowship Hall on the upcoming youth mission trip. The mission will be from July 12 through 19 to the United Methodist Children’s Home in Tahlequah, Okla. They will leave Sunday following worship.
If you have time, send them off with Christian love. They will appreciate monetary and spiritual support.
