Cats name new football coach

February 4, 2009

Tom Byers has been named the new head football coach at De Soto High School. Byers spent the last three years as De Soto’s defensive coordinator under former head coach Brad Scott who stepped down in December.

Byers, who played college football at Kansas State University, was a four-year letterman and graduated from the school in 1994. Byers was a member of the 1993 Kansas State team that won the Copper Bowl. Byers also earned All-Big Eight Academic honors while at Kansas State.

Byers spent eight years as an assistant coach at Blue Valley Northwest and also served as head track coach there for three years. Byers later served as defensive coordinator for Ottawa University before joining the De Soto staff three years ago.
