JoCo Sheriff to be out in force New Year’s Eve
Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputies with the Directed Patrol Unit will be out in force throughout Johnson County on New Year's Eve working to keep impaired drivers off the street.
Sheriff Frank Denning said, “I hope everyone enjoys ringing in the New Year. This is the time of year to look forward to the positive things to come. But remember to designate a sober driver or you risk not only going to jail but you risk your life and those on the road with you.”
Drunk driving is one of America’s deadliest crimes. In 2008, 11,773 people died in highway crashes involving a driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. The picture for women is particularly concerning. Twenty-one percent of the 5,473 female drivers killed in crashes in 2008 had BAC levels of .08 or higher.
