Ashley Lynne Fisher and Hunter Ray Noe of De Soto announce the birth of a girl Olivia Raelynne Fisher-Noe. She was born July 26 in Olathe Medical Center in Olathe and weighed 6 pounds, 12 1/2 ounces and was 19 inches long.
She maternal grandparents are Tim and Stacey Fisher and paternal grandparents are Lloyd Noe and Deanna Stephens-Bolen. Great grandparents are Don and Dott Stephens, Jerry and Sharon Keegan, and Richard and Kathy Fisher. Great great grandparents are Dera Stephens and Louise Keegan.

Students in the De Soto USD 232 bested their peers on both the state and national level with average composite ACT scores.
De Soto students scored an average of 22.8. The state of Kansas composite score was 21.9. and the national average was 21.1.

My first thought when I read of Mary Etta Copeland’s retirement was how many students would miss the wonderful experiences my grandsons, Chad and Casey, had learning from her from 1997 through 2005.

After much discussion last week, the De Soto City Council approved the De Soto Days Festival Committee’s request to use Riverfest Park with the condition it develop a pedestrian plan. The decision came after some residents in attendance questioned the decision to move the festival from Miller Park to the new park on 79th Street until sidewalks connect downtown to the new park.

Johnson County Community College has launched a Web site designed to keep education at the forefront of public awareness.
The Web site, jocoeducation.org, made its debut Aug. 17 and shares news, photos and calendars of six Johnson County school districts and JCCC .

The De Soto Methodist Church Council on Ministries Committee is hosting a heritage potluck luncheon next Sunday, Aug. 30 from 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Everyone is encouraged to bring a dish of their heritage or a favorite dish to share. The past dinners have been well attended and they hope this one will be too.
