De Soto football scrimmage set for Friday

The De Soto football team’s annual green-white scrimmage will be at 7 p.m. Friday at De Soto High School. Parents, alumni and fans are invited to attend.

DHS sophomore plays for Shawnee Blues

De Soto sophomore Hayden Chandler played for the Shawnee Blues 15-U baseball team during the latter part of the summer.

The Blues won the silver division championship tournament, which took place from July 24 to Aug. 2. Chandler also participated in the Home Run Derby and hit four home runs and had two balls reach the warning track to score 10 points. Chandler went on to advance to the finals and finished second overall.

Teammates joining Chandler from De Soto were C.J. Faddis and Austin Ingram. Other teammates included Tyler Moore, Garrett Scheffler and Jacob Spring, who attend Mill Valley.

Several other area students from Blue Valley, Blue Valley West, Olathe East, Olathe Northwest, Shawnee Mission Northwest and Winnetonka also played for the team. Chris Faddis was the head coach and Michael Moore, Shawn Moore and Jacob Martin were assistant coaches.

Chandler is the great-grandson of Dorothy Nalley and Debbie Chandler is his grandmother.
