Board approves budget, mill levy remains stable
The De Soto USD 232 Board of Education at Monday night’s meeting unanimously approved a 2009-2010 budget of $92.6 million.
The budget holds the district’s levy stable at 74.169 mills.
To keep the levy the same, the district will tap into reserves, which will allow it to reduce levies for special assessments and capital outlay funds to 4 mills. Previously the funds were at a 4.5 mill level.
The approved budget anticipates levying $28.5 million in taxes, compared to nearly $29 million for the 2008-2009 budget.
A mill is $1 in taxes for every $1,000 in assesses valuation.
A public hearing Monday on the proposed budget, which was published July 27, drew no comments prior to the board’s vote.
