Johnson County’s 2010 budget approved

Johnson County commissioners approved a 2010 budget last Thursday of approximately $778 million with no anticipated increase in the mill levy next year. The existing levy is 23.165 mills, which is the lowest among the state’s 105 counties.

JoCo Olathe DMV office to be closed Friday for move

The Olathe office of the Division of Motor Vehicles is moving to a new location that’s only half a mile away. The existing location at 1327A East Santa Fe Street will be closed Friday, Aug. 21. The opening at the new site at 782 North Ridgeview Road (southeast corner of Ridgeview and Kansas City roads) is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Aug, 24.

The De Soto USD 232 Board of Education at Monday night’s meeting unanimously approved a 2009-2010 budget of $92.6 million. The budget holds the district’s levy stable at 74.169 mills.

Interim Superintendent Ron Wimmer introduced two district students — one legally blind and the other a cancer survivor — to faculty and staff Thursday during the district’s convocation at De Soto High School.
