De Soto Riverfest Park has won over another doubter. When John Evans of the Evan Midland Games brought his carnival to De Soto Days last Labor Day Weekend, he visited the new park and came away unimpressed.

Assembly recognizes Starside for environmental education, awareness

This year Starside Elementary went green, next year they’ll go greener. The school seems up to the task. Students and staff at Starside have embraced the mantra ‘reduce, recycle, reuse’ so much so that they were honored as a Kansas Green School of the Year by the Kansas Association of Conservation and Environmental Education.

Johnson County commissioners are again seeking input from 4,000 about the quality of county service. A 2009 Citizen Survey of Johnson County to assess community needs and priorities was authorized Thursday, April 9, by the Johnson County Board of Commissioners.

The De Soto United Methodist Church had a successful Maudy Thursday service with communion served. The church’s sunrise service was also well attended with a brunch and egg hunt following. The Easter special service ended the morning’s activities.
