Townsend to play in JCHS all-star game

De Soto senior Jamel Townsend has been chosen to play in the Johnson County High School all-star game at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the Johnson County Community College gym.

Townsend is one of 24 area athletes selected to play in the game.

Townsend named to Journal-World first team

De Soto senior Jamel Townsend has been named to the Lawrence Journal-World’s all-area first team. Townsend averaged 12 points and 9 rebounds a contest for the Wildcats.

JV soccer falls to Hayden

The De Soto girls junior varsity soccer team played Monday night at Topeka-Hayden and lost, 8-0.

The Wildcats also played a makeup game against Basehor-Linwood at home Wednesday night. Results from the game were unavailable at press time.

Next up for the Wildcats is a road contest Thursday at Tonganoxie.

Physical checkup night

There will be a physical checkup night on May 13 at De Soto High School.

Students entering grades seven through 12 in the fall of 2009 at De Soto and Mill Valley High Schools as well as Lexington Trails, Mill Creek and Monticello Trails Middle Schools should attend.

Parents must accompany their students in order to sign necessary paperwork or send the signed paperwork with their students to the event.

The physicals will be good for the 2009-2010 school year. Cost is $20 and for each physical $10 will be donated back to the school.

DHS tennis coach wins award

De Soto tennis coach Michael Sullivan has been named the National Federation of State High School Associations 2008 girls tennis coach of the year for coaching excellence.
