On the horizon

April 2, 2009

Q: What was your reaction to receiving a Horizon Award?

A: I was tremendously honored, and I became motivated to live up to the expectations of a Horizon Award Recipient in my 2nd year of teaching.

Q: Why did you decide to be a teacher?

A: I have a strong desire to leave the world a better place than when I entered it. I knew becoming a teacher would allow me to do that in one of the most meaningful ways.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a teacher?

A: No two days are the same. Each day I can count on a child to impress me, make me laugh, cry, or just desire to be a better person. Working with children is entirely worth it!

Q: How has the award changed your teaching or view of teaching?

A: I entered the profession striving to be the best teacher I could physically be. Receiving the award only proved that hard work pays off in more ways than one. My view on teaching remains the same: I want to be the best teacher I can physically be!

Q:What advice would you give first year teachers?

A: You have chosen a very rewarding profession. Remember the encouraging difference you can be in a child’s day, and the impact you will have on a child’s lifetime.
