Less than four years earlier, they had graduated from Chinese high schools where they had taken approximately three times more science coursework than students in the United States. De Soto USD 232 put its school lockdown procedures in place Sept. 17 at Lexington Trails Middle School and De Soto High School when it was learned a student who had been acting erratically was possibly heading toward the buildings with a weapon.
Seven city bike tour to include stop Sunday in De Soto

Bicycles will be a common site Sunday in De Soto as the city will be a stop on a seven city tour.

Cyclists who would like to be apart of the tour still have a chance to register and explore the scenic rolling countryside of Douglas, Johnson and Leavenworth counties this weekend through the 26th Annual Buffalo Bill Century “Tour of Seven Cities” ride.
County officials explain intersection redesign

Johnson County Public Works officials explained to the De Soto City Council last Thursday their proposed realignment of the city’s prime intersection for future commercial development was part of a plan meant to prevent traffic snarls.
De Soto USD 232 enrollment grows by 6 percent

De Soto USD 232 officials weren’t surprised when official enrollment numbers were calculated Tuesday to send on to the Kansas Department of Education.

The number of full-time equivalent students, a number that counts pre-kindergarten and kindergarten as half a student, in the district’s 12 attendance centers was 6,051. The state will now audit the number to determine the district enrollment for the purpose of per-pupil funding.

Jim Walker of De Soto often indulges two passions when searching for a photograph to get down on canvas.

That’s right, canvas. Generally associated with painting, Walker prints his photographs on canvas using a method know as giclee, which is French for little spray. It is an ink jet printing method that allows photographs to be printed on such surfaces as canvas and fine art paper.

You could say the De Soto Wildcats cross country team had a pretty good day last Saturday at Bonner Springs. Both the girls and boys teams are battling some nagging injuries, but that didn’t stop them from sweeping the field as the girls and boys squads both finished in first place.
