Second annual De Soto Art Show
The second annual De Soto Art Show will open with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. at Zimmerman's Kill Creek Farm, De Soto.
Steve Mayes, professor of art and design at the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, Missouri, judged the entries. Artwork of all mediums was allowed for this show, organized by the De Soto Art Council.
Along with the juried art, several booths will be open Friday and Saturday featuring more work by area artists, including Gil Rumsey, John L. Biles, Jeannine Fallert, Rose M. Burgweger, Nancy Grayson, Carolyn Dvorak, Jim Walker and Michael L. Ash.
Burgweger, owner of RMB Prints & Gifts/Walking through Scripture, will have pieces on display from her "Along the Roadside" show this year that are photographed on many of De Soto's rural roads. A contribution from sales of her work that weekend will be made to the De Soto Multi-Service Center and Heart to Heart International located in Olathe. Burgweger is also offering a drawing for a free matted print from the "Along the Roadside" collection.
The art show will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 26 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 27.
Opening night entertainment will include singers from Lexington Trails Middle School, De Soto, under the direction of Gayle Moriarity, vocal music director. They are scheduled to perform at 4:30.
