Vote for Toplikar

October 29, 2008

Despite the proliferation of Hayden signs, voters in Johnson County’s 6th District would be wise to keep John Toplikar on the county commission in light of his opposition to the public infrastructure plan for the Gardner Intermodal hub and logistics park.

A fiscal conservative, Mr. Toplikar wa my state representative for eight years when I lived in Olathe, and I greatly admire his no-no-nonsense approach to proposed tax abatements for large entities in the private sector. Just say “No,” he say, and I agree.

As for the rest of the county commissioners and their view a “yes” vote on the plan, I’d say they were out of control — like an ambulance driver unencumbered by speed limits.

With that in mind, come election day this year and two years from now, voters would be wise to figuratively converge on the County Administration Building and show them the doors with these parting words: “You’re no longer welcome on the premises.”
