Mill Valley golfers win at Spring Hill
October 1, 2008
Girls golf may be a relatively new phenomenon at Mill Valley High School, but the Jaguars’ combined squad with De Soto High School is quickly developing a reputation as a high-quality club.
The infant program has competed in three tournaments so far, and it has two second-place finishes and one team championship to show for the effort.
On Wednesday, Sept. 24, the team won its first tournament when it competed at the Spring Hill Invitational at Paola Country Club. De Soto senior Ashley Sweeney was the individual champion, Mill Valley senior Carly Santalauria was fourth and DHS sophomore Emma Tinsley was fifth at the 9-hole event.
The team championship was the biggest highlight in what already had been a successful season. It finished second at the Piper Invitational at Sunflower Hills Golf Course on Sept. 2 and then was the runner-up Sept. 10 at the Perry-Lecompton Invitational at Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence.
The team next competes on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the Gardner Invitational.

Point of View
Will you be buying more or fewer fireworks this year?
Probably a lot less. We’re probably going to a big show and get a few things to make our grandson go oh.
